21st Century Statistics
For Mathematics Teachers of secondary statistics
and Mathematics Education Faculty. The focus will be on AP level statistics. The project will serve those who teach or want to teach AP statistics, teachers seeking National Board Certification, or those who want to enhance their knowledge of statistics.
ACCLAIM
The Appalachian Collaborative Center for Learning, Assessment, and Instruction in Mathematics (ACCLAIM) will build a mathematics infrastructure in the Appalachian regions of Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, and West Virginia, providing a model and resources for other isolated, rural, poverty-stricken areas across the country.
The two primary goals of ACCLAIM in these Appalachian regions are to (1) build mathematics capacity and expertise through advanced degree programs in mathematics, job-embedded professional development for middle and high school mathematics, and research that connects mathematics and rural education, and (2) improve the quality of mathematics teacher education programs and mathematics teaching at the middle and high school levels in these Appalachian regions through the development of collaborative networks and innovative delivery systems.
Engineers of Tomorrow
The Engineers of Tomorrow Program was designed to attract and retain qualified Appalachian students, particularly women and underrepresented minority high school students, to engineering and science-oriented careers, and encourage improvement in math scores for all students.
LSAMP
A solid college education is an important part of achieving the dream-Dr.King’s dream, the American dream. The National Science Foundation’s Kentucky, West Virginia LSAMP wants to help students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) have a successful college education and a rewarding career by promoting diverse campus environments where all students can thrive.
The partners of the KY-WV LSAMP have a goal of increasing the number of underrepresented students who earn Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) baccalaureate degrees.
TEACH-WV
Under the proposal authored by the WVU Research Corporation titled, “Teaching Excellence at College for High Achievement in West Virginia” (TEACHWV), 20 scholarships will be awarded to students who complete the Benedum Collaborative Five-Year Teacher Education Program. Upon completion, students will earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), as well as a Master’s Degree in Education. This will qualify them to teach in West Virginia’s middle and high schools.
WvEB Math
The State WvEB Courses are college-level mathematics courses for high school students. The goal of these courses is to allow students a smooth transition into entry level college mathematics. Students enrolled in a course will receive 3 College credits through a participating higher education institution.
